“The launch of the Steam Deck will be delayed by two months,” said the Valve in a message to buyers of deposits for the Steam Deck. “We’re sorry about that – we’ve done our best to solve the global supply chain issues, but due to shortages of materials, components don’t make it to our manufacturing facilities in time to meet the initial release dates. Based on our updated build estimates, the Steam Deck will begin shipping to customers in February 2022.”
Valve says that everyone who is already in the pre-order queue at Steam Deck they’ll keep their place in line, but each buyer’s dates will change in about two months. Booking date estimates are in the process of being updated for each buyer, so if you pre-ordered one Steam Deck, check your Steam account for the new shipping date.
Steam Deck must use a custom quad-core CPU with integrated graphics developed by AMD, a 40Whr battery (estimated to provide 2-8 hours of playback), 16GB RAM, 64-512GB of storage, a microSD card for add more space, a USB Type-C port for charging and connecting to external monitors, Bluetooth and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The starting price is still $399, over R$2,000 for the 64GB model. Valve also confirmed that the interface being developed for the Steam Deck will replace Steam’s old ‘Big Picture’ full-screen mode on all platforms, but there is no word on when this will be released.
